5 Things NOT to do when binge drinking

When inebriated or preparing for a night of inebriation, many of us don't have the foresight of what NOT  to do when partaking in said alcohol.

If you don't want to end up like that guy above and prefer to be like this the following morning, here's some simple advice.

1. Don't drink loads of cola, or other caffeine loaded drinks. Caffeine is a diuretic, basically meaning you pee out all the water in your body, and guess what, alcohol does the same thing too. You don't need to be doubly dehydrated now do you.

That energy drink may keep you up all night, but you'll be flat on your face all day tomorrow.

2. Don't start drinking on an empty stomach, why you ask:-

Alcohol is absorbed more slowly on a full stomach which means your liver has more time to process it, and get it the heck out of your bloodstream.

3. Don't take preventative painkillers for the following morning, you'll be better off without them.

Some painkillers such as Paracetamol are processed by the liver, and guess what, alcohol is also processed by the liver, so you're poisoning your liver by overloading it, hence it'll take you just that much longer for that' horrible headache to pass.

Other painkillers such as Ibuprofen stop the body from making the protective mucus coating around the stomach that stops the acid in your stomach from melting it!
That plus the effect of alcohol causing acid reflux (heartburn) means you get a double dose of not so awesome 'burn' in the morning!

4. Don't induce vomiting just to make that horrible nausea go away, or worse, to empty your stomach so you can drink more (yes I know people who have done this).

While you may think that getting it all out is the best solution, you may inadvertently cause a tear in your oesophagus, which will then lead to you vomiting copious amounts of blood, forcing you to seek emergency medical attention and possible death from blood loss. Scared yet?

5. Don't drink and dope.

By dope I mean Ecstasy, aka X, Candy, Love Drug, Skittles etc.

If it's one thing you take away from this post, then forget everything I said above. This is possibly the worst thing you can do when binge drinking

Taking Ecstasy by itself is risky business, and if you must then all advice is that you must be in a cool environment and keep well hydrated.

This is because, ecstasy can do all sorts of nasty stuff to your body, increase in heart rate, hypertension(increase blood pressure) , and rarely hyperthermia (increase body temperature).

Now add in the dehydrating factor of alcohol and you get potential heart failure and/or renal failure.

This just turned from best night EVER! to...

So the next time a friend tells you 'don't think, just drink' I hope you ignore that advice soundly.

If you are that friend, then after reading this surely something must stick and you'll be a better friend next time around.

Don't take everything I say here as scripture, always with a pinch of salt.

Thanks for reading.
